53. Recognizing Power

“And when the men of that place recognized Him, they sent into all the surrounding district and brought to Him all who were sick; and they began to entreat Him that they might just touch the fringe of His cloak; and as many as touched it were cured.”  (Matthew 14:35-36)

People who live in want and need see things more readily than those that have their needs met. Whereas a man of renown and material things may desire the more that life has to give him, the poor and needy gravitate towards the one who has the power to give them the very basic things in life. Rich, healthy folk simply do not ‘need’ Jesus. They may find Him somewhere along their path when they are confronted by the Spirit, but even Jesus said that it was hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. (Matt. 19:23). In Gennesaret, the need for healing was astronomical among the folk who lived there and the surrounding region. Word of mouth was the way news was spread for people to come to Jesus’ location wherever He might be found. But the true ardour of the people was their recognition of Jesus’ power. The recognition of Jesus’ power is the entry point of faith. Where there is no recognition of God, there is no faith.

The belief was so strong there, that all the surrounding district of people were gathering for their health needs to be met. They believed and they were rewarded according to their faith. They believed so strongly that if they could just touch the fringe of His cloak, then they would be healed; and they were.

My spirit here is interrupted with what has happened to us? There has been so little experience of the power of God in people’s lives today, particularly in the United States, that most have come to believe that the power that was expressed in the days of the Bible was only for then and not for now. But, the Bible doesn’t say that. The only people who do say that are people who have been taught that by some unfaithful creature who has created and perpetuated a lie from hell. Just because you think you have not experienced this kind of faith and this kind of healing does not mean that it does not exist. The existence of a thing exists in the minds and hearts of people.

Faith is a fact. Even though faith is not an outward tangible object, we believe that it exists in our hearts and it does, whether some other person of unbelief believes it or not. Faith exists just as any other scientific fact exists. One cannot argue faith; either you believe it exists or you don’t. The people of Gennesaret believed in faith that Jesus could heal them of any of their diseases, even to the touching of his cloak. Again, what has happened to us?  Has it been the hundreds of years of traditional religious thought to cover the power of God under a veil simply because a group of men hundreds of years ago stopped believing?  Recognize the power of God. Jesus is the same, yesterday, today, and forevermore! (Hebrews 13:8). That is a giant clue to those who preach that the power of God was for then and not for now. Believe in God by what God says about Himself and not what men try to teach you by their doctrines.

Recognize His Presence as Almighty God and you will be amazed in ever-increasing faith in Him.
