57. The Coming Judgment

“And He will gather His wheat into the barn, but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”    (Matthew 3:12b)

Too often we want to hear only the good, peaceful words that tickle our fancy. We want to feel good and we have been led to believe that positive goodness leads to positive words and affirmation which leads to prosperity and all the good things that some preachers promise, but never can deliver.

We’ve been told to think good thoughts; that the power of positive thinking will see us through. These sentiments may make us feel good in a moment, but are only temporary; they are not the joy that Jesus spoke of in John 15:11, “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.”  Jesus was speaking to His disciples about remaining in Him, abiding in Him, obeying His commandments and abiding in His love.

Those that remain in Him, abide in His love and that keep His commandments are the ones who will bear the fruit of the Holy Spirit. (John 15). Not everyone is going to believe in the saving grace of Jesus Christ and even fewer folk are going to abide and remain in Him for narrow is the way and few there are that find it. (Matthew 7:13). Not everyone is going to heaven.

We are not to judge as to who gets to go to heaven or not. We are not to judge as to who is saved, or not. We don’t have the capacity to judge rightly and we have been admonished by the Lord not to judge. So stop judging others.

The word says here that, ‘HE will gather HIS wheat into the barn, but HE will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.” (Emphasis mine). The Holy Spirit is the One Who convicts of sin, who judges with righteousness and who illuminates the truth into the hearts of men and women. (John 16:8-13). He is the One who does the work. We are to be the mouthpiece, just like John the Baptist. We are to be the overflow of the Spirit of God so that a world that needs Him will come to know Him through the vessels that bear our names.

If you name the Name of Jesus Christ, rejoice that your name is written in heaven, but take no credit for anything that He does through you. Glorify Him in all things and remain in Him and His joy will be full in you.
